Seismic-Resistance
One of the most important purposes of Awasuka is to spread knowledge about safe houses. People need to keep in mind the good habits of safe construction, because sometimes their habits relax as time goes on after the earthquake. And in order to continue the knowledge transmission, sometimes new strategies for communication need to be invented outside the traditional channels.
That is why Awasuka has released the video and social awareness song “Block, Wood or Stone” to disseminate important information about safe houses in a entertaining way. The song talks about the spiritual value of a house in Nepal, the physical and emotional shaking an earthquake causes, and what people need to know to build safe houses. The video was directed by Nirmal Lama from Bhimphedi Guys, a very popular dancer and video producer from Bhimphedi, also involved in social programs. Through their Youtube channel, highly successful across the country, Awasuka has reached a very high audience and, thus, a better dissemination of its awareness message. It has crossed 16,000 views, a very large number for a seismic architecture tutorial, compared to similar NGOs. In fall 2018, many local people took part in the video shooting: children from Balmandir (Amics del Nepal Children’s Home) and the village, as well as one of the beneficiaries of Awasuka.
